Tropical Pineapple Smoothie
Jul 08, 2023Do you like pina coladas?
If so, these guilt-free digestive smoothies are for you!
Pineapple contains bromelain and papaya contains papain - two naturally occurring enzymes that help break down strings of protein for absorption. Bromelain also works to reduce swelling of joints and inflammation. Often times, these compounds are added to digestive enzyme and arthritis supplements because they are particularly good at breaking down circulating proteins that can cause inflammation and damage.
However, in food form, they aren’t as concentrated as taking them in a supplement.
How to use these fruits? There is no limit. You can serve wedges of pineapple with a BBQ drink instead of lemons or limes. Add these fruits to a fruit salad for dessert with a meal. Create a tropical salsa.
Below, you'll find two tropical smoothie recipes - the second is one of my go-to breakfast smoothies. I've listed coconut milk (to give it a more tropical flavour), but you can use almond if that works better for you.
Blend and enjoy.
Both also freeze well for a popsicle version!
